What a weekend! I am coming back to California from Michigan filled with pride. I went home for the weekend, to celebrate the return of Phi Kappa Tau's Alpha Alpha chapter back to the campus of Michigan State University.
I have a great deal of pride as I watched a group of young men, future leaders, come together and work tirelessly over two years to bring Alpha Alpha back to campus. I am honored to have served as the Great Lakes Domain Director during that journey, along with their acting Board of Governors Chairman for the first half. I recall coming to campus monthly, trying to provide encourage, guidance, support and mentoring to these future brothers. I remember each of the Association Rituals that I had the honor of leading on campus, next to the Sparty Statue. Flying over five hours to be present for the Chartering Ceremony was the least I could do. Being able to mentor was the greatest gift I could have received; I grew as a brother because of this experience and I am hopeful each of my new brothers grew as well. Their hard work paid off ... even when their were times we thought it would not happen. They refocused their efforts, came together, and made it through. One chapter is complete, now on to the next as brothers. Brotherhood events such as Alpha Alpha's Chartering Ceremony remind me about some of the values I try to live by: leading, learning and serving. Phi Tau is one of the reasons I remain involved in my community, and one of many reasons I am enrolled in SDSU's MA.EL program! Damn Proud to Be.
